10th Annual English Teachers’ Day

For PH Vienna, 2016 was a special year as it marked the 10th birthday of English Teachers’ Day (ETD). Since 2006 we have had the privilege of bringing together well known authors, leading national and international speakers, ELT exhibitors and English language teachers.

Over the past 10 years the ETD has grown from 70 to 300 participants.

The English Teachers’ Day is one of the main events in the English language teaching calendar in Austria and offers a varied programme of practical professional development workshops focusing on a wide range of TEFL topics.

This year’s conference included 36 separate seminar sessions on topic areas such as digital technology, creativity in language learning, innovative teaching methods, and cultural aspects.  The focus of the conference was to host practical presentations which can help to enhance classroom experiences and aid teachers’ understanding of new developments in ELT.

Having recently returned to Austria, after working as a digital consultant on the Hillary Clinton presidential campaign, Yussi Pick shared in his keynote speech "What’s next? America under

President Trump"some views from his inside experience during that momentous period, culminating with the unexpected results of the election. The subsequent question and answer period demonstrated the interest of several participants in his analysis of those results and the reasons for the outcome.

The 10th Annual English Teachers’ Dayprovided an excellent networking opportunity for participants, not only with other teachers but also with speakers, publishers and others at the cutting edge of English language teaching.

The exhibition hall hosted a variety of partners’ stands and presentation stands of language course providers and stands of publishers to showcase ELT publications for conference participants.

As a climax of this jubilee year, the well-known Irish-Austrian band “Caedmon’s Fayre” took the audience on their magical musical tour. Rough songs, dreamy ballads and rocking tunes enthused the audience so much that hardly anyone could resist hitting the dance floor.

What an unforgettable event!
